The Beginnings of TEC

Share the Word TEC was formed in November 1989 by a group of dedicated volunteers who wanted to bring the Teens Encounter Christ movement to Eastern NC. The founders of Share the Word traveled to Georgia to attend a retreat with Pass It On TEC. The kind folks from Pass It On helped Share the Word gather materials, make plans, and even helped on the first few weekends. Since then, Share the Word has helped several other movements start – Over the Mountain TEC (TN), Hand in Hand TEC (Western NC), and even ones in Virginia and California!

TEC Around the World

There are many Teens Encounter Christ movements around the world. While many of them are Catholic movements, there are other denominations too. For some churches, TEC is known as Chrysalis or Emmaus, but the same general format is used for the retreat weekends. There is even a TEC Conference where different movements can share ideas.

STW TEC is a Non-Profit Organization

Share the Word TEC is a non-profit organization that is overseen by a Board of Directors. The Board handles the financial and administrative side of the movement, and ensures that TEC retreats and Community Events maintain the spiritual integrity of the movement. The Board and its committees always have multiple projects going to help advance the community and the movement. Some projects are short-term, while others are continuous.
